AIM for Solutions | Sustainable Infrastructure

Climate Change Adaptation

As extreme weather events occur more frequently and with increasing severity, it is becoming apparent how vulnerable essential services are to the impacts of climate change and the significant consequences of not proactively managing these risks. AIM helps clients identify and prioritize climate change adaptation measures using industry and international guidance and standards, including:

  • ICLEI Canada's Building Adaptive & Resilient Communities (BARC) Framework
  • Engineers Canada's Public Infrastructure Engineering Vulnerability Committee (PIEVC) Protocol

Asset Management Planning

An up-to-date Asset Management Plan is the first step to understanding the investment needed to deliver sustainable services. With certification from the Institute of Asset Management (IAM) and firsthand experience as an asset manager of municipal infrastructure, AIM ensures clients receive a focused approach to:

  • Preparing and updating Asset Management Plans and Annual Reports to comply with Ontario's Infrastructure for Jobs and Prosperity Act
  • Developing and refining asset hierarchies
  • Identifying and creating monitoring programs for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Conducting risk assessments to prioritize maintenance and renewal investments based on client-specific risk tolerance and funding levels

Pipeline Condition Assessment Programs

Physical condition assessment data is key to optimizing infrastructure maintenance and renewal funding and reducing the likelihood of catastrophic asset failures. AIM helps clients maintain levels of service with defined operating and capital budgets by:

  • Developing prioritized condition assessment programs that consider asset characteristics and risk profiles
  • Preparing business cases to support the resource requirements for these essential programs
  • Establishing data management frameworks to incorporate condition assessment data in future decision-making

ISI Envision Framework

The Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) has established the Envision framework to provide evidence-based criteria, such as greenhouse gas emissions reductions, water conservation, habitat preservation, and lifecycle costing, to help infrastructure owners and operators achieve sustainability targets.  With our Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) certification, AIM works with clients to:

  • Develop procurement documents incorporating ISI Envision sustainability criteria
  • Coordinate the implementation of ISI Envision criteria on infrastructure projects
  • Prepare projects for Envision verification
